I am enrolled in CST 515 Technology and Communication, as part of the requirements for a master's degree in
Contemporary Communication.
I have an undergraduate degree in American Politics from the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
After an academic interest in the intersection of politics and the media, I began my career in communications as
an intern at Ketchum Public Relations in Washington, DC. As part of their healthcare team, I helped to launch an
awareness and education campaign for laser eye surgery.
In the years immediately after earning my degree, I worked as an account executive for Imre Communications, a
medium-sized PR firm in Baltimore, Maryland. From power tools to exterior house siding, I handled media relations
for a range of national clients in the home building and improvement industry, including The Home Depot and Ridgid
Power Tools.
Currently, I am the Communications Manager for Baltimore's Kennedy Krieger Institute, an internationally known
speciality research hospital with a singular focus in serving children with special needs. I handle national
and local media relations efforts, including publicity of research findings, patient stories, and fundraising events.
My responsibilities also include internal communications, media training, crisis communications, social media, media partnerships,
and special events advertising/marketing.
I am pursuing a master's degree to further my knowledge in the field of communications and enable me to move into a Director-level position
either with Kennedy Krieger Institute or another organization in the field of healthcare. I find the hospital work environment to be filled with
energy, urgency and joy. It is also my hope that a master's degree
may open doors in the future to part-time teaching opportunities in higher education.
My very home-centric hobbies include:
