I am currently enrolled in CST 515, Technology in Contemporary Communication, for the Spring 2010 semester. Taking
CST 515 is a requirement for a master's degree in Contemporary Communication and my fourth course in the program.
My undergraduate degree is in English with a concentration in writing from Towson University. Soon after declaring a minor
in Medieval and Renaissance Literature, I switched to a minor in Women's Studies. Although I was unaware at the time
how beneficial this would be for my overall career plans, I have now found this decision to be extremely worthwhile in my current career choice.
I have worked for a number of different organizations over the years from very small to one of the largest
employers in Maryland, Johns Hopkins University. At Hopkins, I worked for the Chief of Cardiology in the School of
Medicine where I managed a large research grant. For the past three years, I've been teaching in the business
division at Harford Community College. I'm currently teaching eight classes including Microsoft Office
applications and communication technology courses. Although I still feel like a novice with my days filled with
numerous challenges, I believe I've finally found my calling. My love of education and learning new
things as well as my passion for helping others has found me a home in academia.
Although my career in higher education as well as my pursuit to attain a master's degree are both immensely time
consuming, I still find time to include some of my favorite pastimes:
- Playing board games with my family; our current favorite is Halo Risk
- Reading for pleasure instead of work; my current novel is Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia
- Writing for pleasure instead of work; I love writing historical fiction
- Walking with my daughter; our conversations get better with each stride, and
- Watching movies with anyone who will join me; I love the classics as well as a good suspense
